The writing is rough, with a lot mixed verb tenses and awkward phrasing. It’s also often unclear if the text is something that the MC is thinking about at the moment, or something that he thinks as he retells the story later on from a first-person perspective. It’s needlessly confusing to even tell the story from two different perspectives in time from one line to another. The story elements get confusing too. For example, the MC does a spit-take when the owner of the Carnation Club tells him that it’s a brothel, even though his buddy mentioned it to him in the elevator on the way in.
